The Black Monolith
Merxheim is one of the first cities encountered when entering the Reikland, when moving down the river in the direction from Altdorf to Marienburg.
The city is located precisely at the intersection formed by the great river with the Dresden, a minor tributary that winds south of Reikwald. This strategic position, the rich and prosperous Merxheim, which lives mainly off trade, exports its wines and timber harvested and cut in the sawmills nearby.
This city has about 2000 inhabitants. Like most imperial cities, Merxheim is protected from external attacks by high walls, overhung at regular intervals with redoubts and butresses, where armed men, belonging to the local garrison stand on guard.
The thick wall, whose imposing fortified towers carefully monitor the comings and goings of boats completely surrounds the city, stopping just near the banks of the river.
At the rear of the city is an old but sturdy fortress that rests on a bluff overlooking the city.
