Hagen is of average build, more wiry than muscle-laden. He has got dark hair and wears a nicely-groomed moustache. His nose is well-formed but huge and together with his small, piercing eyes his gaze can be quite unnerving. When he gets agitated this effect becomes even stronger, as his moustache moves constantly and one does not know where to focus, until one eventually needs to break away and give in to Hagen’s strange stare.
In addition to his leather armor, Hagen is wearing practical clothes of high quality. His belt buckle is designed like Sigmar’s Comet and he also wears a few other paraphernalia that display his ardent belief in the man that became a god, the saviour of the empire.
Other than that, Hagen has lost most of his money and equipment in a night raid. It was probably his fault, but he doesn’t admit that to himself. He held on to his pistol and sword though.
Hagen is currently suffering from a wound to his nose, which disfigures his looks and makes his appearance even more intimidating.
Behaviour and way of thinking
Hagen thinks all others are either corrupt, clumsy or generally incompetent, most likely all of that. Since he fully realizes how pathetic most people are, he comes down less hard on those who are at least just incompetent or only clumsy and not both together. (He has an insanity that tells him he is superior to practically all others.)
Hagen has learned that he should not always show his (supposed) superiority, because inferior people mostly cannot cope with realizing their weakness. Luckily he is strong-willed enough not to constantly blurt out insult after insult. If a situation develops in such a way that the pressure gets not too high, his contempt might show through however. He often display quirky behavior when he tries to reign himself in (things like counting aloud from one to ten, repeat prayers that are potentially unsuitable in the current situation, etc.)
When one accompanies Hagen for an extended period of time it becomes apparent that he suffers from changing moods, which somehow go along with subtle changes in his appearance, as his facial musculature reorganizes itself. Hagen is very aware of this and it is in utter conflict with his desire for stability, loyalty and being in control.
For Hagen, loyalty is very important. Loyalty to the empire comes first and above all else. However, one should also be loyal to comrades and fellow people, at least if they have earned a minimum of respect – by being faithful to the empire, by not being fops, etc. The reason for his insistence on loyalty is all the backstabbing that he experienced in his large family – backstabbing that eventually enabled the family to acquire a minor title. For Hagen, charming and backstabbing amount to almost the same thing, they often go together with vanity – taken together these traits open the door wide for all kinds of corruption to take over. The ruinous powers and especially the working of Slaneesh are abhorrent to him.
Hagen comes from a very wealthy family of merchants who recently attained noble status. He is the second son. He will not inherit wealth and despises the corrupted, wealth and pleasure seeking social environment in which he grew up, especially the “nouveau-riches”. His elder brother is called Siegfried.
Hagen’s relationship to “old” nobility is yet unclear. He is not really used to interact with brass tier folk very much, but he is quite willing to make compromises with those that he deems not morally corrupt.
4th Reikswatch Company
Hagen entered the 4th Reikswatch Company not as an officer but as rank and file, not wanting to use any of his connections. Hagen is convinced his abilities will make him move up rank quickly enough without any scheming.
